  • Announce engagement
  • Choose wedding date
  • Inform family & friends of dates.  Save the date cards will help out -of -town guest to be prepared to travel
  • Determine wedding budget
  • Decide who will pay for what
  • Decide on level of formality and style/theme
  • Begin looking through magazines, Pinterest & books for ideas
  • Gather guest list from bride, groom, and both sets of parents. Create working list
  • Hire a wedding planner
  • Select and book ceremony and reception site
  • Select and book officiate.
  • Choose bridal party members and inform them of their roles
  • Choose and order wedding dress and head piece (optional)
  • Collect bridesmaids size cards and ordering information
  • Choose and order bridesmaids attire
  • Decide on attire for men
  • Choose a florist and meet with a floral designer
  • Choose and book a caterer
  • Choose and book a cake baker
  • Choose and book a photographer/ videographer

Nine Months Before

  • Schedule pre-wedding classes (optional)
  • Meet with caterer to discuss menu & set up
  • Select entertainment with music professionals
  • Choose and book honeymoon
  • Apply for passports if needed
  • Finalize guest list
  • Send save the date cards
  • Order invitations
  • Order wedding rings, have them engraved if desired
  • Reserve rental equipment
  • Choose and reserve room block for out of town guest
  • Book honeymoon suite for wedding night

Six Months Before

  • Decide on and assemble or order wedding favors
  • Begin to plan rehearsal dinner
  • Select ceremony music
  • Select attire for children (if any in wedding party)
  • Order tuxes or suits for men
  • Register for wedding gifts
  • Plan wedding week-end activities

Three Months Before

  • Address, assemble and stamp invitations (suggestion: have an invitation addressing party)
  • Order grooms attire
  • Begin wedding gown fittings
  • Choose shoes and accessories
  • Start bridesmaid’s fittings
  • Brides & Grooms parents choose wedding attire
  • Arrange baby sitter for guests’ children (optional)
  • Have engagement photos taken

Two Months Before

  • Mail invitations
  • Complete wedding gown fittings
  • Choose and purchase going away outfit and honeymoon clothes
  • Formally ask friends for help at wedding such as attending guest book, transporting gifts, etc.
  • Finalize ceremony readings and music, submit song list to DJ
  • Send for name change documents such as credit cards, driver’s license, social security cards, etc.
  • Purchase gifts for each other, parents & bridal party

One Month Before

  • Get marriage license. Marriage License info:  Clerk of court. Both must be present to apply. Florida requires that you have picture ID such as a driver’s license and your Social Security number or a valid passport number. There will be a discount if you have had pre-martial classes.
  • Coordinate with wedding planner to develop wedding day schedule
  • Confirm honeymoon plans
  • Arrange for guests’ transportation to hotel
  • Make beauty appoints for wedding day: hair, makeup manicure, etc.
  • Attend showers
  • Write thank -you cards for showers gifts (by hand)
  • Plan wedding day brunch, inform bridal party or arrange for food for bridal party at dressing locations if no time for a brunch
  • Call guest who have not responded to get final head count
  • Purchase any of the following if being used
    • Unity candle
    • Garter
    • Toasting flutes
    • Cake knife
    • Guest book
    • Post wedding toss –its/ exit (bubbles, bird seed, sparklers, etc.)
    • Pillow for ring bearer and fake rings
    • Flower girl basket
    • Sand ceremony vases and sand
  • Decorate containers for post wedding toss-its
  • Create seating place cards and table numbers
  • Pick up honeymoon travel tickets and information books
  • Make seating chart for reception

One Week Before

  • Confirm wedding plans with wedding planner, confirming time, final payments and delivery /set-up times
    • Caterer, final head count
    • Cake baker
    • Photographer/videographer
    • Ceremony musicians
    • Reception entertainment
    • Officiate
    • Ceremony / reception site manager
    • Transportation company- give directions
    • Rental and décor final counts
  • Finalize schedule from rehearsal to reception with wedding planner
  • Discuss wedding schedule with all involved
  • Make final payments to all vendors
  • Assemble personal emergency bag with extra make-up, medical items
  • Place tips and fees in marked envelopes for officiate, ceremony musicians, valets, wedding planner, etc.
  • Pick up wedding gown, bridesmaids gowns, shoes
  • Wear shoes around the house to break them in. Ask bridesmaids to do the same
  • Men pick up tuxes, accessories, shoes, socks etc. Have them try everything on to ensure proper fit.
  • Men get hair cuts
  • Pack for honeymoon
  • Get travelers checks or cash
  • Have bachelor party and bridal luncheon
  • Plan special toast/speeches
  • Submit address change to post office
  • Arrange for post office to hold mail during honeymoon (you can do this online)
  • Arrange for someone to mail announcements after wedding.
